How you’ll make an impact

  • Mentor a team on aviation cyber risks and risk assessment methodologies
  • Develop and present aviation cyber security risk-related papers, reports, alerts, and bulletins
  • Perform aviation cyber risk assessments in accordance with industry standards and best practices
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on third-party relations in the aviation space and the associated cybersecurity risk
  • Document all United partners and third-parties associated with aviation cybersecurity
  • Maintain and build relationships with key cybersecurity aviation partners both internal and external to the company

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in STEM or Engineering Field of Study, such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Security Engineering, or other applicable technical degree
  • At least 4 or more years of combined related experience in either aircraft engineering, aircraft cybersecurity, embedded product security, or other similar related fields
  • Prior Aviation experience (OEM, Supplier, Operator, Airport, Maintenance, etc.)
  • Knowledge of airport operations, aircraft avionics, cabin and propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of security risk methodologies consistent with the aviation industry
  • Risk identification and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of basic cryptography concepts
  • High-level understanding of network exploitation, attack strategies and methods, current IT security technology, software and cyber threat mitigation tools
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems, network design, embedded security, and security architecture principles

The Senior W&B Engineer works under the guidance of a lead engineer to develop all aspects of Weight and Balance Control, W&B system (IT) development and development of data in support of the company flight manual/weight & balance manual. The Sr. W&B Engineer will also support of all internal customers to include Flight Ops, TechOps, Load Planners, Flight Dispatchers, Cargo Agents, QA Auditors and Flight Safety investigators. The Sr. W&B Engineer will also support external customers in the development, interpretation, and analysis of W&B data. The Sr. W&B engineer, under the guidance of a lead engineer, will also be responsible for maintaining and supporting the fleet/s assigned to them.

  • Manages W&B Control systems and processes under the guidance of the lead engineer
  • Maintains and supports all aspects of Aircraft W&B data for United Airlines on assigned Fleet/s under the guidance of the Lead Engineer.  This includes the development of W&B models for new fleets

Job overview and responsibilities
Independently performs software and hardware modifications on Denver based Flight Simulator and Flight Training Device (FSTD) equipment. Develops concepts and techniques for use in upgrading and/or maintaining flight simulator training devices. The workforce is divided into Two simulator Engineering Teams supporting the two major manufacturers of simulators within the Denver training center. Operational support includes development of alternate hardware design solutions for various obsolete electronic and digital processor components, integral to reliable FSTD operations. Designs and fabricates specialized simulator and/or visual system test equipment. Performs guided checkout and installation of new avionics, aircraft and simulator systems. Addresses FSTD discrepancies recorded during crew training sessions that are remedied by engineering via modifications to design software as well as performance of various software updates to aircraft common databases, aircrew Lesson Plans, airport visual scenes and simulated aircraft malfunctions. In addition to operational support the engineering group develops and implements the design approach for FSTD incorporation of aircraft specific changes/upgrades to avionic equipment, engine operations, aerodynamic performance and aircraft system interdependencies. Assists maintenance technicians with troubleshooting support activities on non-routine FSTD problems. Determines adequate sparing levels to assure reliable training equipment operation. Coordinates technical acceptance as required. Supports special projects as assigned.
  • Supports flight simulator modification/upgrade estimates including material and labor costs and prepare and track estimated costs and prepare rationale for any variances encountered
  • Support the implementation of flight simulator modification/upgrade plans using MS Project and execute projects to the plan
  • Create technical specifications for new FSTD training equipment purchases and perform acceptance testing of the new equipment
  • Develop engineering, maintenance and preventative maintenance plans-of-action for all FSTDs
  • Technical external interface with various UAL aircraft engineering groups, aircraft component manufacturers, flight simulator OEMs as well as flight simulator sub-system manufacturers
  • Technical internal interface with FSTD users, Flight simulator Maintenance Supervisors, and FSTD training developers
  • Technical point-of-contact for contract sales office for providing service to all outside simulator contract training customers
  • Ensure SQMS, 14 CFR part 60 and applicable CBA compliance on a daily basis
  • Review individual work assignments with the assistance of the Engineering Manager ensuring equipment discrepancies (DRs) are assigned and corrective action is completed based on training impact
  • Monitor FSTD performance metrics of availability, reliability, open Aircrew DRs, and dispatch, analyzing trends and provide engineering support where necessary
  • Monitor performance of FSTD qualification tests for timely completion. Update QTG test schedule as may be required to insure desired completion levels
  • Participate and support work with other operational groups to ensure regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency. Interface directly with Simulator and Aircraft manufacturers keeping up with technical advances within the industry
  • Communication with the FSTD users to obtain feedback on maintenance actions and performance including operational reliability and availability
  • Provide weekly status reporting of Engineering activitie
  • Review simulator performance metrics for historical data and SQMS record keeping
Education
