  • Review and action Airworthiness Directives (AD) so as to ensure compliance with applicable regulations

  • Take action as required to incorporate applicable changes that are determined to provide benefits in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives
  • Responsible for the understanding, periodic review, implementation, update, and currency of aircraft avionics systems, mechanical systems, and related components portion of the Maintenance Program
  • Conduct root cause analysis for aircraft systems and related component problems which may cause aircraft delays, cancellations, substantial expenditures in manpower or materials, or interruptions in maintenance operations and initiates the action required to remedy any undesirable condition(s) detected
  • Develop technical data required for modifications/repairs of aircraft systems and related components
  • Initiate the actions required to ensure that source documents affected by engineering actions are updated and reflect current data, configuration, and accuracy
  • Develop customized procedures and special criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing, and other maintenance actions which are not adequately addressed in existing manuals
  • Provide engineering documents such as Engineering Orders (EO) to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspections, or other maintenance actions on aircraft systems and related components
  • Evaluate new methods, materials and equipment, which may provide cost benefits, and takes action to incorporate justified changes
  • Establish build specifications for aircraft systems/components
  • Develops engineering procedures, standards and process specifications to comply with manufacturer/vendors Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and other FAA requirements
  • Coordinate engineering functions with regulatory agencies as required for approval for major repairs and alterations including the completion and forwarding of documents to support such approvals
  • Provides technical assistance and troubleshooting support to various departments in support of the day-to-day operation
  • Assists the Manager with continued development of the Engineering processes, training/mentoring less experienced Engineers, and management of the Engineering Department.
  • Represents the Engineering Department at meetings as required

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. In lieu of this education requirement, must have a Bachelor’s degree in another Engineering field and an A&P Technician Certificate, OR must have an Associate’s Degree in a technical field, an A&P Technician Certificate, and ten (10) years of A&P Technician experience
  • Six (6) years combined engineering and/or technician experience in airline technical operations or equivalent field
  • Knowledgeable background in aircraft electronics and avionics systems, power distribution, cabin electronics, cockpit instrumentation and navigation systems, pneumatics, air conditioning, flight controls, fuel, hydraulics, and landing gear.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) governing aircraft certification and maintenance
  • Reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of system / avionic problems
  • Ability to manage and coordinate several tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities
  • Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (35%)
  • Pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Auto Cad

The Configuration Control Engineer provides support for Technical Operations by managing and controlling the configuration of the aircraft, engines, landing gear and related systems and components.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Define the Part Master configuration for all repairable and rotable components in the TRAX Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) computer system in accordance with JetBlue Airways, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
  • Use the M&E system to control the configuration specification for the JetBlue Airways fleet.
  • Develop processes for data loadable aircraft components and software and maintain the correct software configuration on the fleet.
  • Review various manufacturing manuals, service bulletins, and associated data in order to determine interchangeability requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance to various departments in support of the day-to-day operation including Line Maintenance and Business Partner repair organizations to facilitate aircraft operations, repairs and maintenance.
  • Review the modification status of all aircraft, engines, and components prior to entry into service.
  • Review configuration changes initiated by OEMs on new aircraft (including new types of aircraft and engines), meeting with OEMs and Material Planners as required.
  • Review configuration changes initiated by Engineering Controls (ECs) and implement into TRAX M&E computer system.
  • Assist Engineers to build strategy for the evolution and standardization of the aircraft fleet and individual component LRUs to support major fleet modifications and minimize spare parts costs.
  • Create Information Notices to provide notification to affected parties of configuration changes and ensure appropriate documentation (Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog) and training is updated if required.
  • Promote awareness of parts effectivity and interchangeability across the Tech Ops organization.
  • Interface regularly with Material Services, Maintenance, and Quality groups to identify informational needs of the organization and implement plans to meet those needs.
  • Identify areas requiring improvement and implement action plans to address them.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Material Planning and AOG Material Services to enable them to update effectivity and the TRAX M&E system as part of their duties including expendables, consumables, repairables, and rotables.
  • Maintains awareness of ETOPS significant systems. Monitors and resolves technical issues associated with ETOPS operations. Assists the department to establish, administer, and ensure the quality of the ETOPS Significant Systems Program. Assists the department to ensure ETOPS aircraft continue to meet requirements for configuration, maintenance, and procedures for extended range operations.
  • Assists the Manager with continued development of the Engineering processes
  • Assists the Manager with the day-to-day management and control of the Engineering Department and represents the Department at meetings as required
  • Assists with training / mentoring less experienced Engineers
