    Role Summary

    This role is responsible for executing on the strategy for Interiors Engineering at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, the Manager Engineering – Interiors leads and establishes priorities for the team to support the operation as well as execute cabin interior projects & initiatives.

    Key Duties

    • Serves as leader for a group of engineers tasked with managing the interior configurations and mechanical reliability of cabin interiors for the Pacific Northwest’s premier airline.
    • Leads the team that designs new interiors configurations to meet the needs of a changing consumer market.
    • Partners with Marketing, Flight Technical, and Inflight to create optimal configurations for our crews and passengers to ensure a hassle-free experience on our airline.
    • Evaluates new and exciting trends in aircraft Interior configurations for application to our fleet.
    • Serves as focal point for major upgrades to cabin interiors, from development of concept through first article inspections, including defining the configuration and specifications, and working through the STC.
    • Partners with reliability, line maintenance, and base maintenance to ensure on-time arrivals of our customers at their destination.
    • Drives the disposition of all OEM (Boeing, Honeywell, etc.) recommendations (SBs, SLs, etc.) for priority incorporation into the fleet to help maintain our outstanding on-time performance and safety record.
    • Provides dynamic leadership to process all engineering control (EC) documents (engineering orders, engineering authorizations, fleet campaigns, etc.) to direct the incorporation of modifications, improvements, and disposition of line troubleshooting and shop requests.
    • Works hands-on to ensure exceptional quality of workmanship for configuration control and required maintenance actions, and on occasion creates the original document data to meet the special needs of our operation.
    • Reviews and approves build specifications and CMM supplements delineating the required maintenance to be accomplished at designated vendor shop overhaul facilities.
    • Review applicable federal aviation regulations (FARs) and airworthiness directives (ADs), and ensures prompt approval of resultant generated engineering documentation for 100% compliance.
    • Serves as the focal point for timely and effective investigations and analysis, including associated written responses or working presentations for all interiors-related FAA CMO issues.
    • Provides Maintenance Control and Engineering Technical Services personnel with troubleshooting assistance for resolution of chronic aircraft interiors issues resulting in a prompt return to revenue service.

    Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

    Required

    • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience (e.g., airline, shop, OEM, etc.) with detailed project and on-wing support knowledge.
    • 2 years of leadership experience.
    • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in engineering (preference is electrical, mechanical, or aerospace), or a combination of other degrees, licenses or experience will be considered in lieu of engineering degree.
    • Engineering management or team leadership experience.
    • In depth understanding of Interiors certification CFR’s.
    • Knowledge of FAA regulations and oversight functions (for both aircraft and engine operating airworthiness certificates).
    • Excellent communication skills: verbal (both informal working teams and formal executive presentations), and in clear/concise written documents.
    • Capable of performing in a fast-paced environment while simultaneously meeting assigned project deadlines with a self-directed decision-making confidence.
    • Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with division leaders, cross-functional departments, and employees in a team-oriented environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

    Preferred

    • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training and certifications.

  • Role SummaryThe Flight Safety Manager is a subject matter expert in the safety systems, regulations, processes, and protocols that ensures safety of flight at Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgement to make decisions to assess risk, coordinate flight safety reporting programs and track corrective actions. This position collaborates with divisional leadership as needed to support of flight safety investigations and safety communications.Key Duties
    • Works directly with personnel across all divisions of Horizon Air in support of Safety Management Systems (SMS) Safety Risk Management (SRM) associated with ineffective risk controls or new hazards including facilitating SRMs with divisional support.
    • Processes and disseminates Pilot Safety Reports (PIR’s) including identifying and tracking follow-up actions. Elevates high risk events directly to Safety and Flight Operations leadership.
    • Initiates and conducts investigations into safety events found through any of the input systems of the Horizon Air’s Safety Management System (SMS). This includes coordination with FOQA, ASAP, Flight Operations Quality Management, and all other reporting sources, both internal and external to Horizon Air, and is accomplished in accordance with the SMS Manual procedures.
    • Champions Safety Promotion with Horizon Pilot group including presenting at formal training events and addressing concerns and feedback from the Pilot group.
    • Creates and disseminates Flight Crew Information Files (FCIF’s) to communicate vital safety-related information directly to Horizon Pilots.
    • Authors monthly Flight Safety Newsletter.
    • Produces reports and identify trending items from the safety reporting database system for use by company leaders.
    • Works directly with personnel across all divisions of Horizon Air in support of Flight Safety investigations, including events that require Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Safety Transportation Board (NSTB) reporting per 49 CFR 830. Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Technical Team.
    • Attends regular meetings supporting Safety across Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air and the Horizon Flight Operations.
    • Meets regularly with the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Flight Operation Quality Assurance (FOQA) Program Managers to ensure continuity across programs and coordination with Flight Operations.

As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in economic analysis and provide recommendations to address operational, fleet, and revenue considerations to produce industry-leading schedules.Key Duties
    • Creates, develops and optimizes the long-range flight schedules based on Network Planning market frequency decisions, operational constraints, crew capabilities, and fleet plan utilizing complex modeling software to maximize profitability.
    • Acts as the lead for Network Planning in reviewing schedule patterns and adjusting schedules to align with passenger demand and financial performance in new and existing markets.
    • Leads the evaluation of the operational impact of conceptual future schedule adjustments, including new routes, frequency, time, and equipment changes.
    • Serves as Network Planning’s representative in the budgetary planning process, producing and maintaining the rolling 18-month budget schedule with Finance, Crew and M&E.
    • Maintains strong internal working relationships with hub/outstation, maintenance, crew, operations research group, and others to ensure schedule feasibility and reliability for future schedules.
    • Supports in the creation of seasonal flight schedules to ensure schedule design and structures are properly implemented
    • Prepares ad-hoc analyses in support of other commercial teams as it affects future schedules.
    • Mentors other Analysts on the team to ensure continuum of work and productivity.

    Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

    Required

    • 4 years of experience with airline planning/scheduling tools, data analysis, or related area
    • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in business administration, economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics, accounting, finance, computer science, or a related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
    • Knowledge of airline fundamentals and economics.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently under tight deadlines.
    • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills.
