Under the direction of the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot, the Assistant Chief Pilot manages pilots and responds to all issues in accordance with the Company and department policies and procedures as well as the DOT, FAA, and TSA regulations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Promotes and fosters a safe and secure operating environment.
  • Supervises direct reports.
  • Assists the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot in supervising, counseling, and managing base pilots.
  • Liaison with local regulatory agencies such as the airport authority, Transportation Security
  • Administration, local law enforcement, etc…
  • Establish and maintain records for base pilots including ID, parking, daily operations, and worker’s compensation.
  • Assists the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot in monitoring the day-to-day operations and performance of the pilot group.
  • Participates as an on-call management pilot after office hours, on weekends and holidays, as assigned.
  • Manages leaves of absence for all base pilots.
  • Liaison with the local union officials and committees. Involved in grievance hearings and union negotiations, as applicable.
  • Assists the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot in Administration of the collective bargaining agreement, Pilot Attendance / Reliability Program, and other Company policy.
  • Participates in base management staff meetings and acts as a liaison between the Flight
  • Department and other departments, as directed by the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot.
  • Participates as a Go-Team member as described in Air Wisconsin’s Emergency Procedure Manual.
  • Maintains proficiency as a Line Pilot or maintains currency in the Line Observation Program.
  • Promotes and fosters a safe operating environment.*
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Flying & Chief Pilot.*

Education/Experience

  • Two to three years Part 121 or 135 experience required

The Manager of Pilot Training (MPT) supervises a team of curriculum developers as they create and develop all pilot training material. The MPT leads the administration of Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) along with traditional N&O curriculum development, implementation, maintenance, data validation, training system processes, and FAA certification of each program. The MPT acts as a liaison and a focal point for the FAA, and other external and internal organizations that may impact any training.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervises, the Curriculum Developer Team, and others as assigned.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Flight Instructor to determine which materials should be taught using distance learning, classroom, simulator, or line training programs.
  • Responsible for department and divisional coordination of the process to test and obtain FAA approval of AQP and Traditional N&O training processes.
  • Responsible for the direction of the instructional system development methodology for AQP as well as the program Audit Database.
  • Responsible for liaison related activities with the FAA
  • Responsible for the coordination with Technical Publications to ensure the Company flight training manuals are continually aligned with the qualification standards.
  • Responsible for reviewing 14 CFR Part 61, 91, & 121 changes on a yearly or as needed basis. Applicable changes must be noted and if required, applied and or incorporated.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Flight Instructor and appropriate departments to determine impact of training changes.
  • Communicates and supports the development/maintenance of all training with input from the Director of Flight Standards and Training, Chief Pilot, and Chief Flight Instructor.
  • Responsible for interfacing with Training Delivery, and Pilot Records on all curriculum and pilot qualification changes.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the required training structure of the pilot training program to include the AQP format and others as applicable.
  • Responsible for quarterly audits of the flight training program and submit the required monthly data and annual reports for review by the Company and FAA.
  • Responsible to lead the required FAA meetings based on AQP data per the FAA requirements.
  • Communicates with industry professionals to maintain industry standards and best practices through regional and national conferences.
  • Supervises development of new training technologies such as Internet and computer-based training which will improve training quality and reduce costs.
  • Maintains a high quality curriculum in compliance with FAA guidance and Company policy.
  • Aids in development of policies and procedures to ensure that all training is accomplished as efficiently and economically as possible.
  • Chairs the Flight Data Analysis Team (FDAT).
  • Serves as a secondary management representative to the ASAP ERC Committee.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Flight Standard and Training.
  • Promotes and fosters a safe and secure operating environment.
  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a high degree of knowledge in the training process.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in an aviation, communications, or teaching curriculum plus experience or Bachelor’s degree in an aviation, communications, or teaching curriculum preferred
  • ATP with appropriate type ratings
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong computer knowledge, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (including MS Word & PowerPoint, Excel, Access), Internet courseware development tools, and e-mail
  • Previous 5 years’ experience in Federal Aviation Regulations Part 121 or 135 Have comprehensive knowledge of Advisory Circular 120-54
  • Ability to work independently and as a team as situations require.
  • Attendance of AFS-280 AQP Indoctrination
  • Previous Air Wisconsin Ground, Simulator and/or Flight Instructor
  • Knowledge of CRM and Human Factors
  • Knowledge and experience in training or teaching, with excellent classroom presentation skills
