The IT Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication devices. This individual will also analyze, monitor and resolve network hardware and software problems.
Essential Job Functions
- Proactively recommend, design, secure, configure and troubleshoot company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, UPSs, and other network hardware to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Monitor and manage network and system performance, provide performance metrics, and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Conduct periodic capacity planning exercises and make recommendations to optimize performance and capacity utilization.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network design, configuration, processes, disaster recovery, failover, and service records.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, security audits, asset management, equipment upgrades, change control, network usage, and disaster recovery.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
- Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security.
- Plan and oversee new and existing network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to evaluate and recommend network products and services.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior IT employees.
- Effectively communicate operational issues and project initiatives within the IT department in a timely manner.
- Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define technical requirements and develop cost-benefit information for proposed systems.

- Four-year college diploma or equivalent experience required
- 4-6 years of IT experience in various infrastructure related roles preferred
- Four years of IT experience with emphasis in networking. Multi-location experience is a requirement.
- Five or more years of extensive hands-on experience with Cisco networking solutions including routers, firewalls, VPN concentrators, switches, gateways, access devices, wireless access points, etc preferred
- Five or more years of experience with WAN services including frame relay, VoIP and MPLS preferred
- Five or more years of experience in telecommunications including working knowledge and hands-on experience with IP telephony, fax servers, unified messaging, call processing, VRU, call accounting, toll-fraud detection/prevention, call recording systems, voice and data cabling systems, voice network services, etc preferred
- High-level networking experience (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Cisco, LAN, WAN, WLAN, etc.)
- Project Management experience highly desired
